Getting Started

Yes. All game modes, daily challenges, leaderboard access, and result sharing are completely free. Pro removes ads and adds a perception dashboard for $2.99/month.
Do I need to create an account?
No. You can play immediately without signing up. Your progress saves in your browser localStorage. Pro users create an account to sync data across devices.
Can I play on my phone?
Yes. Toon Tone runs in any modern browser — phone, tablet, or desktop. The color wheel is optimized for both touch and mouse input.
Gameplay
What game modes are available?
Four modes: Classic (10 rounds, affects rank), Daily (1 per day, same for everyone), Lightning (5 rounds, 1.2s preview), and Quick (5 rounds, multiple choice).
What is the daily challenge?
One new cartoon character appears every day with no color preview. You get one attempt. Everyone worldwide gets the same puzzle. Resets at midnight UTC.
How does the color wheel work?
Click the outer ring for hue, then the inner area for saturation and brightness. It feels like painting, not typing hex codes.
Can I practice without affecting my rank?
Yes. Quick mode (5 rounds, multiple choice) is great for practice. Only Classic mode affects your main rank.
Scoring & Ranks
How is the score calculated?
Points = max(0, 10000 × (1 − ΔE/50)) × Confidence multiplier. ΔE is the CIELAB color difference between the target and your pick. Lower ΔE = closer match = higher score.
What are the rank tiers?
Bronze → Silver → Gold → Platinum → Diamond → Master, based on your average ΔE across Classic mode rounds. Master requires an average ΔE of 5 or lower.
What does the confidence multiplier do?
Before locking in, you choose Safe (×1), Risky (×1.5), or Gamble (×2). It multiplies your points if you are close — but there is no penalty if you are wrong.
How do I improve my score?
Practice in Quick mode. Focus on hue first, then saturation and brightness. Use a color-accurate monitor. Over time, your color memory improves naturally.
Account & Pro
What does Pro include?
Pro removes all ads, adds a detailed perception dashboard with analytics, and lets you sync progress across devices.
Can I cancel Pro anytime?
Yes. Cancel from your account settings or the Stripe customer portal. You keep Pro access until the end of your billing period. Refunds within 14 days.
About the Game
Does this test my actual color vision?
Toon Tone is a game, not a medical test. It measures your ability to remember and reproduce colors. For clinical color vision concerns, consult an eye care professional.
What is Delta E?
Delta E (ΔE) is a standard color science metric that measures perceptual distance between two colors in CIELAB color space. Lower values mean the colors look more similar.
