HOW TO PLAY

Toon Tone is a free color perception game. Each round, a cartoon character\'s color flashes on screen — your job is to recreate it from memory using the color wheel.

1

SEE THE COLOR

A vibrant cartoon color flashes on screen for 3 seconds. Study it carefully — memorize the exact hue, saturation, and brightness.

2

MATCH IT

Use the color wheel to recreate what you saw. Click the outer ring for hue, then the inner area for saturation and brightness. Trust your gut!

3

SEE YOUR SCORE

Your guess is compared to the target using ΔE (Delta E) — a scientific measure of color difference. Lower ΔE = better score. Perfect match = 10,000 points!

WHAT IS ΔE?

ΔE (Delta E) is a standard color science metric that measures the perceptual distance between two colors in CIELAB color space. A ΔE of 0 means identical. Under 5 is barely noticeable. Over 25 is obviously different. Your score: max(0, 10000 × (1 - ΔE/50))

HOW TO PLAY — FAQ

How long does each round take?

About 30 seconds — 3 seconds to memorize the color, then as much time as you need to pick your match on the color wheel.

What is the color wheel?

A circular picker where you click the outer ring for hue and the inner area for saturation and brightness. It feels like painting, not typing hex codes.

Can I practice without affecting my rank?

Yes. Quick mode (5 rounds, multiple choice) is great for casual practice. Only Classic mode affects your main rank.

What happens if I run out of time?

If you don't lock in a color before the timer expires, you get 0 points for that round. The game moves on automatically.

LIMITATIONS

  • ⚠️Color appearance varies by screen — an uncalibrated monitor may give misleading scores.
  • ⚠️The game measures color memory and reproduction, not clinical color vision deficiency.
  • ⚠️Internet connection required — the game runs in your browser and loads character assets.
